Iconic northern beach surrounded by pine forest, dramatic mountain views and one of Mallorca's most photographed coastlines.
About Platja de Formentor
Platja de Formentor, also known as Cala Pi de la Posada, sits on the Formentor peninsula in the north of Mallorca, a dramatic spit of land reaching out into the Mediterranean. The beach consists of fine white sand backed by a shaded pine forest that reaches almost to the water, with the Serra de Tramuntana mountains as a backdrop. The water is calm and clear, ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. A historic luxury hotel nearby (the Formentor) has given the beach a refined reputation since the 1920s. In recent summers, access by private car has been restricted during the peak season to protect the peninsula; visitors use a shuttle bus from Port de Pollença instead.
How to get there
From Port de Pollença, follow the Ma-2210 road for around 20 minutes of scenic driving. During July and August, private cars are usually banned and you must take the shuttle bus from Port de Pollença. Consider combining the visit with a stop at the Formentor lighthouse.
💡Tips for visiting
Check seasonal access restrictions before driving. The scenic road to Formentor includes the famous Mirador Es Colomer viewpoint, worth a stop. Mornings tend to be less busy and have better light for photos.
